SGML Project 15 Jan. 1992

Appended is a copy of Robin Cover's original posting to the USENET newsgroup
comp.text.sgml regarding his Bibliography.

The Bibliography is available split into 4 separate files (named Bibliog.<n>)
for transmission through older systems. It is also available in a single
file (in both uncompressed and compressed versions).

I am posting to comp.text.sgml a new version of a "bibliography" for
SGML. The compilation is significantly longer than versions posted in
1991, now containing: (a) a section on SGML software, (b) abstracts
for most bibliographic entries, (c) sections for SGML SIGs and online
support centers, (d) extensive cross-referencing. I would hope this
"Annotated Bibliography and List of Resources" for SGML will
adequately orient anyone who wishes to know what SGML is all about.
With 135 entries, the material still represents less than 10% of the
information collected and printed in a TR (which is promised on a file
server "soon"), but this is the best 10 percent.

I am posting the file in four parts, since I think Usenet News still
goes through some antique mailers that croak on (mail) files longer
than 55K. If anyone misses one or more of the four parts. . . well,
check around. . .I assume that the complete file might end up on a
file server somewhere. The total length of the file (173K; 3003
lines) could evoke some criticism WRT the use of network bandwidth,
but in light of the material tolerated already on Usenet (e.g.,
megabytes of GIFs in alt.sex.pictures), I doubt that any such flames
will make me feel guilty.

Thanks to Paul Ellison, Michael Popham, Erik Naggum and Steve DeRose,
who scanned or read a draft copy and sent comments.

Happy reading.
